We hope everyone had a Merry Christmas, and we wish everyone a Happy New Year !!! Riley had a great time with his family and friends on Christmas and was very excited to open all his gifts. Riley was a good boy and Santa brought him lots of toys. Also, yesterday was Riley's 2nd Birthday, and today is his cousin Johnny's 1st Birthday. So we would like to wish the both of them a Happy Birthday.

Everything is going according to schedule for the Benefit Dinner on February 11th, 2007 at Sunset Harbour in East Patchogue, NY. For all the info please click here. If you would like to help out or volunteer please email us at: rileyfund@optonline.net.

Riley has another conference at NYU on January 8th, and we will discuss the details of his upcoming surgery on March 20th 2007. We will also discuss the plans for the next surgery, which will most likely be a Bone Distraction to lengthen his mandible. Riley recently had a consult with a Nutritionist, to discuss his post surgery diet. Because his jaw must be wired shut, he must be on an all liquid diet. We have a follow up appointment in a few weeks.

We would like to thank everyone at E.W. Howell and their "Benefit for a Friend" program which had made an incredible contribution of $5,000 to The Smiley Riley Fund. We are forever grateful for their help and can't thank them enough.

Also we would like to thank both the 8th grade and 12th grade students from McGann-Mercy High School. for raising money during the first quarter of the school year. Between the two classes they raised $375 for Riley. We are very grateful for their help as well, and can't thank them enough either.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING !!!!
This Past weekend we held our first fundraiser for Riley at Port Jeff Bowl, and it was a huge success. The amount of support was overwhelming, everyone had a great time and we raised more than $3,000. There were some great raffles, a 50/50, a lotto tree drawing, a bake sale, some games and prizes for the kids and best of all 2 hrs of moonlight bowling. We want to thank everyone who was able to come and support The Smiley Riley Fund. We also want to thank those of you who were unable to attend, but still made a contribution anyway. An extra special thanks goes to Linda Geremia and her sister Nancy, Aunt Jackie, Sue and Mike Hegarty, Grandma and Grandpa Bivona, Grandma and Grandpa Gaynor, Carol from Zenith Entertainment, Jenn from Team ScionNRG, and Joanne from Port Jeff Bowl. We have been blessed with the help and support of some amazing people, they have helped us greatly and we are forever thankful.

We have a tentative date for Riley's first surgery which is March 20th 2007. We have a few visits with the craniofacial team before this to discuss the details in full.

Last weekend our family suffered a great loss of Theresa Milano, which was Riley's Great Grandma. She was loved by many people and forever will be missed. Thankfully this weekend was much better and we owe that to Riley's Godmother, Aunt Jackie. She completed her benefit run "A Run For Riley" on Sunday at the NYC marathon. She was being supported by a few of her closest friends and family. She did awesome and everyone is so proud of her. Through sponsorship pledges, Aunt Jackie raised $800 for "The Smiley Riley Fund". We are very fortunate to have the help from someone who works as hard as she does. So we would like to give a special thank you to Aunt Jackie for showing her love and support for Riley. He is very lucky to have such a cool Aunt to be part of his life. Also we would like to thank everyone who supported her through sponsorship pledges, and helped Jackie raise all that money for the fund. Aunt Jackie Rocks !!!

Riley has been very busy lately making appearences all over the place, and has been meeting some very special people. Some of which include a visit at McGann-Mercy High School where the students of both 8th and 12th grade are raising money for "The Smiley Riley Fund". Riley's Godmother, Ms. Fitzpatrick gave us a tour and introduced us to some really great people. The support for Riley was outstanding. We were very impressed with the interest shown, especially from the 8th graders, who had some very intelligent questions for us. We greatly appreciate the oppurtunity to come in and meet some of the children that have helped us so much. We want to thank the Administration for allowing us to come in, the faculty and staff for letting us interrupt them briefly, Ms. Fitzpatrick for coordinating the whole visit and giving us a great tour, and most of all to the students for showing great interest and support. Thank you all !!! We hope to see you again sometime soon.

Riley went to a union meeting of the Painters Union Local 1486 which his Grandpa Dennis is a member of. They have not only made an incredible donation to the Smiley Riley Fund, but through some very amazing people have raised $1100 through the sales of Reminder Bands and general donations from the members. Also at that meeting the Local Union 1281 Glaziers Architectural Metal Glass Workers & Allied Trades gave us an incredible donation as well. The Local Union 806 Bridge painters union raised $700. So thank you for your support and all your help. There are too many people to thank individually so thank you to everyone who has helped and supported us. The unions and its members have been unbelieveable, it is impossible to show the amount of appreciation we have for them.

The residents at Cedar Lodge have also been selling the Reminder Bands to raise money for the Smiley Riley Fund. In addition, this past week the staff had a fund raiser for Riley and raised over $700. We want to thank them for not only raising money, but for volunteering to start making hundreds of meatballs at 5 am. Then selling the heros to the staff for lunch. We are very happy that Riley had a chance to meet all the wonderful people who have been helping us along the way. A special thanks to Madeline Butler, the Administrator, Elizabeth Sandin, the Activities Director, Chickie Schuck, the Executive Housekeeper, and Pat Ruppel the Dietetic Service Director. Thank you to anyone else at cedar lodge who has helped in any way.

We are still taking Bowling Reservations, to make your reservation please click here.

The second event is still being planned out but it will be a Benefit dinner, which will be in February. There will be more info on this event shortly. For any questions or suggestions please email us: RileyFund@optonline.net

9-18-06:

We met with Riley's Plastic Surgeon and there is a slight change in the plans for the first surgery. Basically the doctor wants to wait a little longer and give Riley more time for his bones to develop. We also discussed the procedure more in depth and the doctor told us Riley will be in the hospital for at least 3-4 days after the surgery, and unfortunately he will need to have his jaw wired shut for 2 months. So now the surgery will take place around the first or second week in March. We will meet with the doctor again in January for another consult and more info will be provided then. Also we are planning to have a benefit dinner for Riley sometime in November. Please check back for the details or email us with questions using the "Contact us" page.

8-28-06 :

Riley has had a CT scan done and the doctors informed us that it will be a two step process to lengthen the lower right jaw. We are waiting to meet with Riley's Plastic Surgeon to set the date for his first surgery. It will definitely be in December or January. This surgery will be the first of a two step process as noted above, and will consist of a bone graft from his hip which will be inserted into his jaw to extend the right mandible.
